Admission requirements for Electrical Engineering Bachelor's degree programmes
The Electrical Engineering degree programmes at the university are currently admission-free. This means that any applicant with a general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) can start the Electrical Engineering Bachelor's degree programme without admission restrictions. There are also special regulations for applications with a university of applied sciences entrance qualification and those with vocational qualifications. The respective degree programme begins in the winter semester.
It is a special feature of Paderborn University that graduates with a university of applied sciences entrance qualification can also start a degree programme under certain conditions. We would like to explain these requirements for the Electrical Engineering degree programmes here.
General admission requirements
- Proof of entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences
- Proof of general education at university level, i.e. successful completion of examinations in maths, English and German. The examinations are taken before the start of the programme. Preparatory courses are organised for this purpose. Information page Preparatory courses and Aptitude tests
- In addition, further admission requirements are required for the individual degree programmes, which are explained below.
Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering degree programmes:
In order for applicants with a Fachhochschulreife to be able to enrol on a degree programme, their subject-specific aptitude must be determined in addition to proof of general education at university level in accordance with Paderborn University's framework regulations. The Aptitude tests for proof of general education are carried out in the areas of maths, English and German. Information on the individual Aptitude tests, the associated dates and deadlines and how to register can be found here.
Prospective students should enclose an application portfolio with their application documents to check their academic aptitude. This should include a text that does not exceed three pages and includes the following points:
- Justification of the desired degree programme against the background of the applicant's own career,
- Relation of your own ideas about studying to the degree programme offered at Paderborn University,
- Presentation and assessment of skills already acquired that are relevant to the degree programme and
- Ideas about the future professional field.
With the help of these documents, an assessment committee then decides whether an admission can be "approved", a rejection "rejected" or whether a "further procedure" should be initiated. The decision is always based on the assessment of the expected academic success. Applicants from the "further procedure" category will be invited to an interview in order to make an informed decision.
The regulations for determining special aptitude for the Bachelor's degree programmes in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering can be found here.
Industrial Engineering and Electrical Engineering degree programmes:
As a further admission requirement for the Bachelor's degree programme, students with an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences must provide proof of general education at university level in accordance with the Paderborn University's framework regulations and proof of subject-specific aptitude before enrolment in the degree programme. The corresponding general education is demonstrated by the successful completion of examinations in maths, English and German. To prepare for the examinations, block courses are offered before the start of the programme, attendance of which is voluntary. Information on the registration periods and the dates of the examinations can be found here.
Proof of academic aptitude must be provided in accordance with the relevant regulations. For further information, please contact the Wing Student Advisory Service.
In addition to the above-mentioned admissions with Abitur or Fachhochschulreife, applicants who meet the requirements for those qualified in vocational training in accordance with HG § 66 para. 4 can apply for admission in accordance with the admission examination regulations.
Applications should be sent directly to the Registrar's Office; please also refer to the detailed instructions.
