Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Paderborn University. Electrical Engineering and Information Technology are the core disciplines to master new challenges in technology, economy and society. Currently, the fourth industrial revolution "Industry 4.0" leads to global changes in the setup and interaction of technical systems, which will be spectacularly equipped with cognitive capabilities in the future. With increasing digitalization and wide availability of information, the "Internet of Things" has already become part of our daily life. Another topic of extraordinary importance will be the transition to a sustainable energy supply using renewable resources, which will be required to meet the ambitious goals in climate protection.
We therefore focus on the main topics of research and development in the following fields:

  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Microelectronics and Microsystems Engineering
  • Automatic Control and Sustainable Energy Supply based on Renewable Energy Sources.

One particular strength of the Paderborn Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is the large sum of third-party funds received, which, again, is being supported by the 2016 CHE ranking. Here, our department is among the top leading groups of national ranking due to our close cooperation with research partners in industry. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology consists of 15 research groups with over 100 highly qualified and dedicated staff members.
For the training of skilled professionals and leaders of tomorrow, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology offers several highly topical degree courses. Besides a solid foundation of essentials and various methodic competencies, each of these courses imparts, state-of-the-art knowledge, which is derived from the different groups' researches and presented with innovative teaching methods and high standards. In addition, our students are provided with an excellent IT infrastructure as well as laboratories optimally equipped for research and teaching. Here again the department holds a top position according to the 2016 CHE ranking.
