The Daimler and Benz foundation has awarded twelve scholarships for the promotion of postdocs and junior professors. Two of those scholarships went to Jun.-Prof. Dr. Claudia Alfes-Neumann and Dr.-Ing. Moritz Schulze Darup from the University of Paderborn. With this programme the foundation wants to support research autonomy and creativity of young scientists after their PhD. For the upcoming two years the researchers receive a subsidy amount of 40.000 Euros each.
Characteristics of numbers is what the number theorist Alfes-Neumann from the Institute of Mathematics investigates. Within her promoted project "CM Integrals of Igusa Invariants" the mathematician occupies herself with chosen module forms, especially their relationship. Module forms are complex functions which have certain symmetries and besides the number theory loom large in a lot of other areas of Mathematics, such as geometry.
Schulze Darup leads an Emmy Noether junior group for encrypted control engineering promoted by the German Research Foundation. This group interlocks modern regulatory procedures with cryptographic methods, in order to ensure a safe operation of a critical infrastructure long-term. The forward-looking technologies are just at the beginning of its development. The project promoted by the Daimler and Benz foundation aims at prototypical application of encrypted regulations.
The scholarships are awarded annually since 2011. The programme is for scientists of all subject areas and promotes, besides the projects, the communication among the scholarship holders. Both regular events and interdisciplinary exchange of thoughts are a part of it.
