On September 5, 2022, the scientific workshop entitled "Signal Processing and Machine Learning for Spatially Distributed Microphones" was held in Bamberg, Germany. The event was jointly organized by the DFG Research Unit FOR 2457 “Acoustic Sensor Networks (ASN)”, whose spokesperson is Prof. Reinhold Häb-Umbach, and the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions European Training Network “Service-Oriented, Ubiquitous, Network-Driven Sound" (SOUNDS) headed by Toon van Waterschoot, KU Leuven, Belgium. The workshop was held as a satellite event to the "International Workshop on Acoustic Signal Enhancement" (IWAENC).
The workshop featured a keynote talk by Prof. Tuomas Virtanen from Tampere University, Finland, on "Sound Event Localization and Detection" , followed by overview presentations on the goals and outcomes of the Research Unit and the European Training Network. However, the main contribution to the workshop were the many impressive demonstrations, that came out of the work in the projects of the Research Unit, and the interesting poster presentations by the doctoral students of the training network. With a total of 130 participants from all over the world, the workshop was a great success. This joint event allowed the baton of research to be passed from the research group, which is nearing the end of its term, to the recently launched training network.
