On the International Workshop on Acoustic Signal Enhancement (IWAENC), which took place from September 5-8, 2022 in Bamberg, Germany, Tobias Cord-Landwehr, doctoral student at the Department of Communications Engineering, Paderborn University, was awarded the Best Student Paper Award for his contribution "Monaural Source Separation: From Anechoic to Reverberant Environments" with the co-authors Christoph Boeddeker, Thilo von Neumann, Catalin Zorila, Rama Doddipatla und Reinhold Haeb-Umbach. This publication is an outcome of a research collaboration with Toshiba Cambridge Research Laboratories, Cambridge, U.K.
Tobias shows here in a rather sobering analysis that only a few of the successes celebrated in recent years in blind source separation of anechoic speech recordings can be transferred to the much more relevant practical case of reverberated environments. Of the 90 or so contributions from around the world, this paper has been selected for the Best Student Paper Award.
Congratulations to Tobias for this fine achievement!
