The ISCA board has appointed Prof. Reinhold Häb-Umbach to become "ISCA Distinguished Lecturer" for the 2021/2022 term. The International Speech Communication Association (ISCA) is the worldwide largest scientific organization on speech and spoken language science and technology, see www.isca-speech.org/iscaweb/.
Each year, ISCA selects two researchers, one from speech science and one from speech technology, to become "distinguished lecturers". Nominated lecturers are contacted by the ISCA Committee and asked if they can commit to at least two lecture tours in a two-year term, including possible travel to regions specially identified as under-represented in ISCA programs. All such activities will be arranged to be mutually interesting and convenient for hosts and lecturers.
The travels are supported by ISCA funds and serve the purpose to raise the enthusiasm and engagement in speech research. Prof. Häb-Umbach's reaction: "I am honored and happy to fill this ambassador role for speech science in the next two years."
